Owl in Teal — Exhibition
A teal owl sits square to the viewer on a slender branch, framed by a symmetrical ground of acanthus scrolls, trailing stems and pale blossom drawn in the Arts and Crafts manner. The breast and facial disc are worked in cream and soft ochre, the wings and crown in slate and petrol teal, so the one point of colour reads clearly against the sand-toned tapestry behind it. A fine keyline border and a gallery-bill caption — English Nature Series, Arts & Crafts, London 1895 — place the piece in the Victorian exhibition tradition, era of William Morris designs which heavily influence us to day, when natural history and decorative pattern were shown side by side. This is an original imagii design in the style of late nineteenth-century Arts and Crafts pattern work, not a reproduction of a historic print.
Perfect for:
- Hallways, studies and reading corners where one framed piece anchors the wall
- Heritage and period rooms — Victorian, Arts and Crafts and Edwardian interiors
- Collectors building a set from the exhibition nature series
- A gift for bird lovers and anyone drawn to Victorian pattern and ornament
